A Month with My Headphones

It’s been another month of diving deep into my music library and I’ve stumbled across a delightful mix of tunes that I just had to share with you all. Let’s chat about what’s been playing in the air pods!

A Little Soul, A Dash of Healing

  • Corinne Bailey Rae: Can we talk about how Corinne’s voice can soothe even the worst of days? Recently, she’s been a little quiet on the new release front but last year’s Black Rainbow was worth a listen and her classics never fail to impress. Her music is like a gentle reminder to slow down and breathe.
  • Steven Halpern: In the world of stress and endless to-dos, Steven’s music is a sanctuary. His focus on healing sounds really helps in unwinding. I heard he’s been experimenting with new soundscapes lately, which is something to look forward to!

Jazz Hands and Banjo Strings

  • Chick Corea & Bela Fleck: This duo is a blast of creativity—jazz piano meets banjo in a way you’d never expect. They keep jazz as fresh today as it ever was, and I’m always on the lookout for any new twists they bring to their performances. RIP Chick….always one of my favorites.

Stories and Strums

  • Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit: Jason’s storytelling is something else. Every song is a journey. His latest album continues to echo his deep, narrative style, and it’s been a staple in my playlist for when I need some lyrical wisdom.
  • Band Of Horses: Their music takes me places—literally. It’s perfect for long drives or when you’re just dreaming out the window. They’ve been hinting at new material, which I’m eagerly anticipating!
  • Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile: Their collaboration is like overhearing a conversation between two old friends. It’s laid-back and utterly engaging. They’re both brilliant solo, but together, they’re magic. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for another joint project soon.

Beats and Grooves

  • Tool: When I need to break through a mental barrier, Tool’s powerful, complex rhythms come to the rescue. They’re masters at what they do, and their recent work continues to challenge and provoke.
  • Prince: Prince never left us without inspiration. While there’s always a treasure trove of his classics to revisit, the posthumous releases have been a beautiful way to keep his spirit alive in the music scene.
  • Thievery Corporation: These guys are my go-to for when I need to feel like I’m somewhere else in the world. Their new tracks maintain that rich, eclectic vibe they’re known for—perfect for escaping without moving an inch.
