Guilty pleasures #1

Alright, let’s switch gears a bit. I admit this blog dives pretty deep most of the time but every now and then we can find time to lighten up and this Tuesday is the season premiere of the Hulu hit, “Only Murders in the Building”. For me, it’s something of a guilty pleasure.

If you’ve been following along as closely as I have, you know we’re in for a wild ride this upcoming season. But if you haven’t let’s break down what’s on the horizon.

Recap:
Season two left us with quite the cliffhanger. Our main trio – Mabel, Charles, and Oliver – found their paths crossing again a year after going their separate ways. Charles is back in the game, starring in a reboot of his hit series, Brazzos. Mabel’s got her hands full renovating her apartment with Alice, and Oliver? He’s directing a Broadway play. But here’s the kicker: as the curtain rises, Charles drops a bombshell on Paul Rudd’s character, Ben Glenroy, with a chilling “I know what you did.” And then, out of nowhere, Ben’s down for the count.

New Blood and Familiar Faces:
Paul Rudd’s sudden entry and exit isn’t the only shake-up this season. Enter Meryl Streep as Loretta Durkin, an actress trying to find her footing in Oliver’s play. The trailer’s got everyone talking – is she behind Ben’s sudden demise? But word on the street (or rather, Hulu’s synopsis) suggests she might be more of a help than a hindrance to our investigative trio. We’ve also got Jesse Williams’ Tobert and Ashley Park’s Kimber joining the fray. And of course, our old favorites like Tina Fey and Jane Lynch are back in action.

What’s Next:
This season’s pulling out all the stops with a dual timeline narrative. We’re going to be jumping back and forth, piecing together the events leading to Ben’s end while keeping up with the trio’s present-day sleuthing. And here’s something to chew on: this season’s putting Oliver front and center. What skeletons does he have in his closet?

Mark your calendars – “Only Murders in the Building” returns to Hulu on August 8. We’ve got two episodes dropping right out of the gate, with the rest rolling out weekly till the grand finale on October 3.

Points to Ponder:

  1. Streep’s Role: Meryl Streep’s no small fry. What kind of curveballs is her character going to throw our way?
  2. Narrative Twists: Dual timelines can be a double-edged sword. Will this new approach keep us on our toes or leave us scratching our heads?
  3. Digging into Oliver: With the spotlight on Oliver, what’s going to come crawling out of the woodwork?

Gear up, it’s going to be one hell of a season. Let the games begin. 🎬🔎🍺
